Introducing Psychotherapist Mia Rosenberg, LMSW
Liz Morrison Therapy is Proud to Introduce its Newest Psychotherapist, Mia Rosenberg
Mia’s desire to help others first began in high school when she and a friend created a community service project in which they collected stuffed animals to donate to children in hospitals. After developing the project, Mia knew that her passion lies in helping children and families, so she continued to follow her dreams with an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Child Development from Florida State University. She continued to pursue her goals by graduating with a Masters degree in Social Work from New York University, with an emphasis on clinical work. Mia has experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults in private settings, school based settings, and in outpatient mental health clinics.
1. What do you love about being a therapist?
Being a therapist is awesome because I get to be the person who is able to help clients see the change they had always wanted in themselves. It is so great to see them have that “aha” moment, and know that you were the one that was able to help them achieve their goals. It is an incredible feeling to see the attained goal that you and your client have worked so hard towards, especially when they are so excited about it!
2. What’s one of your favorite books related to mental health, social work, or therapy?
One of my favorite books related to mental health, social work, or therapy is The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The book encompasses the struggles of an adolescent and the many obstacles of those who are first starting high school may face. It is relatable and shows that everyone faces similar coming of age struggles, while also teaching positive lessons on how to navigate the awkward moments of high school.
3. What is your favorite activity to work on with kids and why?
My favorite activity to work on with kids is coloring. As a kid, and even as an adult, sometimes it is hard to pinpoint exactly how we are feeling and the chain of events that lead us to that feeling. Coloring helps draw out the more complicated feelings that words sometimes cannot explain, and it is so cool to see how creative kids can get with a marker!
4. What is something you would want parents to know about you?
Something that I would want parents to know about me is that I am a kid at heart. I love getting my hands dirty and really getting knee-deep into the activities with my clients. Similarly, I love bringing in a humorous touch to my sessions, which allows for a trusting and relatable rapport.
5. What are some of your favorite coping skills when feeling stressed?
Some of my favorite coping skills when I am feeling stressed are to listen to music and go for a walk, sometimes even a combination of both! However, music is my go-to coping skill when I am stressed. Listening to music always helps me get lost in the tunes and take a step back from what is stressing me out, so I can approach the situation with a fresh head when the music is over.
